The legal entity of ICOS European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) has held a Landmark status in the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) Roadmap since March 2016.

The ESFRI Roadmap identifies new Research Infrastructures (RI) of pan-European interest corresponding to the long-term needs of the European research communities, covering all scientific areas, regardless of possible location. ICOS is coordinating and taking part in several of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation projects. Horizon 2020 is the largest EU Research and Innovation programme with a total of 80 billion euros in funding over a period of 7 years (from 2014 to 2020).

Currently, ICOS ERIC is coordinating the Horizon 2020 project RINGO, as well as taking part in the RISCAPE, SEACRIFOG, EOSCpilot and DANIUS-PP projects. The ICOS Director General is also coordinating an ENVRIplus project, for historical reasons currently under the University of Helsinki. This project coordination will be transferred to ICOS ERIC in 2017.
